Minneapolis, MN – Yesterday, the City of Minneapolis released a long-awaited after-action report of the Minneapolis Police Department and Mayor Jacob Frey’s mishandling of the response to protests following the police murder of George Floyd.
TakeAction Minnesota released the following statement:
“The after-action report confirmed it was Jacob Frey’s complete incompetence and lack of preparedness that cost Minneapolis so dearly following George Floyd’s murder – not the peaceful demonstrators and mourners he has repeatedly sought to blame and surveil. Jacob and his political allies deliberately lied about and covered up this report until their re-election campaigns had passed to avoid accountability. It is an egregious abuse of power that further stains a historically dirty election and is yet another example of corruption in the Frey administration.
Minneapolis families are being forced to reckon with this horrific breach of trust alongside Mayor Frey’s excited delirium training lie, his no-knock warrant lie – which cost Amir Locke his life – and Frey’s decision to appoint a once-fired officer as the head of training for all Minneapolis police, among other recent public safety scandals. Two months into his second term, the extent of Jacob Frey’s failed leadership and unethical actions comes into sharper focus every day. The consequences of his actions have done incredible harm and we all deserve better.
