Katie Blanchard got into organizing – without knowing that’s what it was called – watching women craft big plans in church basements and township halls in her hometown in rural Northern Michigan.
In college, she found she was learning much more from the stories of the young farmers and immigrant poultry plant workers with whom she shared a community garden than she was learning in class. She was a part of founding the Real Food Challenge, a national student organization that fought to challenge corporate power in the food system and trained student organizers on hundreds of campuses. Since then, Katie has organized with neighborhoods, faith communities, and grassroots groups.
Katie is an artist and designer and loves the way art helps us envision and experience the world as it should be. She was a 2012 Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow.
