Minnesota United Performers
We’re organizing to make Minnesota the best place in the world to be a performer.
We envision a state where all of us – including performers – have what we need and more. Where performers across race and class are respected, paid fairly, and resourced to share our art with the world. And where everyone gets a chance to love Minnesota music as much as we do.
We are 500+ performers from across Minnesota, with major hubs in the Twin Cities (Twin Cities United Performers) and Duluth-Superior (Twin Ports United Performers).
The problem
What we’re up against
As performers, we’re told to see our work as a “passion project” or a hobby while AI companies, streaming services, and corporate ticket giants profit from our labor and exploit our communities. It takes resources to put on a great show or record a hit, and Minnesota artists are being left behind.
The strategy
We build community and power among performers.
From our neighborhoods to the Capitol, we run campaigns to win changes that have a real impact on our lives.
We believe
-
1
All workers – artists and performers included – deserve fair pay and respect.
-
2
Art is critical in the fight against authoritarianism because it brings people together and sends a powerful message.
-
3
Public investment is essential for our local music scene and its small businesses – bands, venues, studios and more – to continue to exist.
