Central MN policing and community safety learning sessions
May 26, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join TakeAction Minnesota members and leaders in a series about policing.
The 3-part series will start with the history of policing, the prison system, and the roots of oppression that run deep within them. In session 2, we’ll learn about the current moment we are in and the choices we must make as community members. In the final session, we’ll take action together to build the future of public safety we deserve.

Each session can be stand-alone or connected to the three-part series. It will include sources and further reading as well as discussion sessions. The political education part will be recorded so others can access the information. The group discussions will not be recorded.
Children and youth are welcome and encouraged to attend! If you would like more age-appropriate content, please contact us. If there is an interest in it, we are happy to hold a space just for youth during this event.
Event Description day 1: In the first session of our Central Minnesota Policing and Community Safety series, we’ll talk about the history of policing and police, the prison industrial complex and its ties to the school-to-prison pipeline, and an understanding of the tenets of racism that uphold all three of these systems.
Event Description day 2: In the second session, we’ll dive into the current movement to address problems in our police and prisons system as well as learn about what people are calling for in response to police violence. In this session we’ll talk about what it means to say words like “divestment,” “abolition,” and “reform,” and what the people most impacted by the police and prison systems have to say about them.
Event Description day 3: In our final session, we’ll focus on the future. We’ll identify what makes our communities truly safe and what kind of action we want to take to set that future in motion. We will spend time dreaming and naming a future where violence is a health crisis, our neighbors are cared for and we have what we need. Attendees will also have time to create their own community safety conversation spaces and will get a tool kit to take with them to guide future action.
