MEDIA ADVISORY

Minnesotans hurt by Senate health care cuts to hold emergency ‘teach-in’ and press conference at the Capitol

Constituents from St. Cloud, Duluth, and the Metro will share their stories and call on the Senate to protect health care and the provider tax

WHEN: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 8 (TOMORROW)

WHO: Minnesotans directly affected by threats to MinnesotaCare and Medicaid, Rachel Zemmer (St. Paul), Heather Taft (Duluth) and Ayase Griesy (St. Cloud)

WHAT: Press conference and emergency ‘teach in’ (storytelling) outside of the HHS conference committee

WHERE: Minnesota Senate Building, outside Room 1200, 95 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55155

VISUALS: Minnesotans holding signs that say “Health Care Now”

WHY: For Minnesotans who need health care, the gridlock at the Capitol is about people versus money. The Senate HHS bill cuts vision and dental benefits, home care, reduces the actuarial value of MinnesotaCare, threatens health care in Minnesota by allowing the 27 year old provider tax to sunset, specifically includes language to prevent the state from enacting a public health care buy-in, and does not hold HMOs accountable. See our Floor letter for background.

Press conference will focus on health care. Individuals will also be at the ‘teach-in’ speaking about Restore the Vote, paid time to care, clean energy, etc.
