Minneapolis City Council Endorsements: Round 1

We’re excited to follow up from our recent mayoral endorsement announcement (Senator Omar Fateh!) to share our first round of member-endorsed candidates for Minneapolis City Council.

We’re ready to re-elect:

✅ Elliott Payne, Ward 1

✅ Robin Wonsley, Ward 2

✅ Jason Chavez, Ward 9

✅ Aisha Chughtai, Ward 10

✅ Aurin Chowdhury, Ward 12

And to newly elect:

✅ Soren Stevenson, Candidate for Ward 8

These candidates won our member endorsement because:

  • They share our vision for a city where all workers – including performers – can make a living and expect dignified treatment. Parents aren’t struggling in a childcare crisis. Public schools are well resourced, and students, families, and educators have what we need. All of us have stable homes so we can put down roots in the city we love. We are safe – with access to clean air, water, and compassionate public safety services.
  • They are proven leaders with the courage to stand up for our values and make the changes our city deserves. Whether it’s fighting to fund local homeless shelters, using their platforms as local leaders to call for a Ceasefire in Gaza, advancing a local labor standards board, or reigning in the city’s biggest carbon dioxide emitters, we’ve seen these leaders take real action for the people – and stand together to override Frey, who chooses to veto progress again and again.
  • They govern WITH the people. From the launch of Twin Cities United Performers to Ceasefire actions, and from labor fights to standing with our unhoused neighbors, these leaders prioritize being in community with TakeAction members and all of our Minneapolis communities. By electing these candidates, we can maintain a progressive majority that won’t only fight for us, but will be in the fight alongside us.

Get ready to re-elect and newly elect these candidates.

🙋‍♀️ Join our Precinct Caucus Training on Saturday, April 5 from 10am-12pm so you can be ready to show up powerfully at your Precinct Caucus on April 8. Pre-register for your precinct caucus using this form by 7pm on April 5.

Precinct Caucuses determine which candidate will win the DFL endorsement. Especially as Republicans dump money into precinct caucus turnout against our progressive Council Members, it’s more important than ever to push for more progressive leadership in our city.

In solidarity,
