TakeAction Minnesota Statement on Ilhan Omar’s Projected Primary Election Victory
(St. Paul, MN)—Ilhan Omar is the projected winner in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District primary election, clearing the way for her re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. TakeAction Minnesota members endorsed Congresswoman Omar and spoke with thousands of voters in the 5th district this primary season. Despite millions of dollars coming into the state to defeat her, Congresswoman Omar won with a grassroots, people-powered movement behind her.
TakeAction Minnesota released the following statement:
“We are proud to send Ilhan Omar back to Congress. We are in the midst of peaking overlapping crises, from COVID-19 to an economic collapse,” said Elianne Farhat, executive director of TakeAction Minnesota. “We need elected officials in office who are bold enough to take on the incredible challenges we face. This means fighting for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, canceling student debt, Homes for All and more. Congresswoman Omar is doing the work for the people of the 5th district, leading the way for solutions as big as the problems we face. She earned this landslide victory and has a movement behind her.”
