Four Farmington women will be honored by Take Action Minnesota at a People’s Celebration gala Thursday, Dec. 8.
Sara Fry, Kelsey Jezierski, Kristy Rhoades and Tysley Taylor are being honored for their work to bring attention to the importance of understanding the historic Juneteenth holiday.
Shakopee, Minn – On Thursday, December 8, over 100 community members and Amazon workers are advancing the fight for fair wages, worker safety, corporate accountability, and climate justice with a public program and demonstration outside Amazon’s Shakopee fulfillment center. Demonstrators will call on Amazon to take responsibility for its impact on our climate by paying for a just transition to clean energy in Minnesota.

Take Action Minnesota says no matter who is in charge, they need to remember the average Minnesota family has been slammed by rising inflation, soaring childcare costs and high gas prices. Take Action’s Trisha Harms says people need to thrive, not just survive. “The richest Americans are accumulating more wealth than ever before, while the rest of us, especially low-income Americans, are actually getting poorer.”
“It was absolutely worth it, worth all of it. A lot of our candidates were elected into office. It’s really thrilling to be a part of that. And we had over 20,000 conversations with people. And from our primary data, we’ve seen that the people that we’ve made that initial connection with and then followed up with are almost 30% more likely to turn up and vote. So yes, it’s worth it to have these conversations.”
In 2022, our democracy and our freedoms were on the ballot. We used our collective power at the polls to make our voices heard on the critical issues and compounding crises that matter most: defending our democracy, protecting our reproductive rights, transforming public safety, addressing the climate crisis, caring for our families and taking on greedy corporations that put profit before people.
TakeAction Minnesota, a grassroots progressive group, said no matter who is in charge, policymakers could put all Minnesotans on equal footing if they invested in such areas as child care and public assistance programs.
Trisha Harms, communications director for the group, said it is not only about helping people survive, but also allowing them to thrive.
“The richest Americans are accumulating more wealth than ever before, while the rest of us, especially low-income Americans, are actually getting poorer,” Harms asserted.
Across the state, Minnesotans made it clear: our lives and freedoms are not for sale, and no amount of corporate cash can buy our democracy. Minnesotans came together to demand real solutions so that we can afford our lives and thrive – regardless of our race, income, gender, or zip code.
Erica Mauter of TakeAction Minnesota said her group’s endorsement of Moriarty stems partly from her acknowledgement that the county’s criminal legal system is rife with racial bias and her commitment to restorative justice.
Moriarty’s platform promises to center victims in her office’s approach, offering support services and transparency in how her office prosecutes their offender.
“She understands that achieving justice depends on what the survivors of crime need and want, and building systems that will take that into account,” Mauter said. “That’s different from a mass incarceration, ‘lock them all up’ approach, which we have evidence and plenty of data to show that just doesn’t work.”
